Flexible Options for Addiction Recovery

Addiction Treatment for People Who Work, Go to School or Have Families to Care For

When it comes to alcohol and drug addiction treatment, most people assume that all treatment programs require an extended residential inpatient program. Although this time of treatment program may offer the type of intensive substance abuse treatment needed for a successful recovery, there are more flexible options to fit every person’s needs. Many treatment centers offer outpatient drug rehab which can take away some of the roadblocks that stop many from getting substance abuse treatment and allow you to stay at home, continue going to work or school, or be able to take care of loved ones that depend on you. Outpatient rehab provides many of the same benefits as inpatient programs but are more flexible around your schedule. You can participate in addiction therapy outside your work or school hours, including nights and weekends.

Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Treatment

Outpatient rehab is a non-residential, therapy-based treatment for substance abuse and addiction. Unlike an inpatient program, outpatient treatment does not require you to stay at the treatment facility. Clients are able to live at home or sober living housing while receiving addiction therapy. You have access to the same addiction treatments as inpatient treatment but you are required to attend for less hours and days a week. Within outpatient treatment, several levels of care exist as well, including partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP).

Partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the most intensive form of outpatient rehab, usually requiring several hours to a full day of treatment for 5 to 7 days a week. PHP programs are a sort of hybrid between inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment. You spend as much time in treatment as in an inpatient program but go home at the end of each day. Intensive outpatient program (IOP) is the next level down which is a better option for those who need to continue going to work or school or have loved ones depending on them at home. IOP programs require between 9 to 20 hours of weekly over 3 to 4 visits per week.

Outpatient treatment can also taper down hours as you progress, requiring less and less participation. This is a good step down from inpatient treatment as well to help transition back into your life with enough support and guidance as your navigate sobriety and relapse triggers. Some treatment centers even offer virtual outpatient rehab which allows access to treatment from home or anywhere in the world.
